I love to incorporate both technology and the visual arts throughout my program. So I read this book aloud to my students, The City ABC Book, and from this they were inspired to go outside and to look for letters within their environment. 

What students did was they took a camera and found their subject matter and decided whether that was a captivating subject matter or not and then decided on how they were going to capture the image of their letter. We played with various angles of the camera to capture their subject matter in an interesting way. After their photographs were developed then the students, with my help, created the letter on top of their photograph. 

What's so amazing is that this book actually encourages students not to just look for letters in signs, but to look for letters in nature, within their playground, look for letters within the classroom, letters all around them.
