Although we love using the iPads for writing workshop, my students still really enjoy writing in their journals. And journals are also a place where they can write about anything they want, whether it be true, make-believe, and what happened on the weekend. We try and fit in journal writing about once a week or really whenever students request it. Sometimes they even pick up a journal during their free time.
Students also like to decorate their journal. Inside, students often start with a picture and then they write their words. It's a great place for us to communicate and also a great place for me to check in on their writing.
